Cream Oil Moisturizers- My Top 5

For the most part, afro-textured hair tends to be dry, so in order to prevent this dryness from causing hair damage, it is wise to invest in a creme based oil moisturizer. Oil Moisturizers can help preserve valuable moisture between shampoos, moisturize the hair in order to maintain its softness, and defend against hair breakage (since dry hair tends to break easily).  But, not all oil moisturizers were created equally. Some focus on strengthening the hair and are protein based and some are created to maintain the moisture balance of the hair. Since my hair is protein sensitive, I tend to stay away from the protein-based moisturizers- they make my hair hard, stiff, and break easily. Instead, I  choose moisturizers that are water based and have very little to no protein in their formulas. I use an oil moisturizer the day I roller set my hair and then not again until third day after the roller set. This has allowed me to maintain my bouncy curls and give my hair a little mid-week moisture boost before I shampoo on Sunday.   An example of my weekly regimen is as follows:
Sunday– Shampoo, deep condition and roller set hair
Monday- wrap hair after applying coconut oil to the ends of the hair only
Tuesday- wrap hair after applying coconut oil to the ends of the hair only
Wednesday– use a little moisturizer concentrting on the edges and ends-distribute throughout the hair
Thursday- wrap hair after applying coconut oil to the ends of the hair only
Friday- wrap hair after applying coconut oil to the ends of the hair only
Saturday– Pre-poo with Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and coconut oil, and leave it on overnight
My Top 5 Oil Moisturizers are all amazing and pass the three day moisture retention test, but some absorb better than others, take less product to create the same results, and/or produce more shine:
